Privacy Policy
Effective 11 August 2026
Saccade is a speed reader (a Chrome extension and a macOS app) that shows text one word at a time at a fixed focal point. It does all of its work on your device, and it is built to know nothing about you.
What Saccade collects
Nothing. Saccade has no servers and no accounts. It runs no analytics, sets no cookies, and never sends anything off your device.
How your text is handled
- When you start the reader, the text you selected (or the page's article text) stays in your browser. Saccade reads it only to show it word by word, then drops it when you close the overlay. It is never stored and never sent anywhere.
- The macOS app borrows the clipboard for a moment to capture your selected text, then puts your previous clipboard back. That text also stays on your Mac, and it goes when the reading window closes.
What is stored
- The Chrome extension stores one preference, your reading speed,
locally via
chrome.storage.local. - The macOS app stores its preferences (reading speed, hotkey, font size, theme) in a local settings file on your Mac.
It never stores page content, browsing history, or personal information.
Permissions, plainly
- activeTab and scripting let the extension draw its reading overlay on the tab you are looking at, and only when you ask it to (toolbar button, right-click menu, or keyboard shortcut).
- contextMenus adds the single "Speed-read with Saccade" right-click item on selections.
- storage remembers your reading speed.
Third parties
None. There is no ad or analytics code in it, and nothing is shared with anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear at this URL with a new effective date. Given how the tool works, big changes are unlikely.

Saccade is an independent tool by DWE Digital. It is named for the rapid eye movement it eliminates.
